At Watershedd our story began on the Cornish coast where daily life is shaped by sea, sky and the rhythm of outdoor living. The landscapes of Cornwall and the culture that grows from them have long informed our architectural thinking. From the calm simplicity of coastal materials to the openness and clarity of beachside living, our early projects were rooted in a strong connection to place.
As our studio has grown and evolved, now with a London base serving clients across the UK, that same clarity of design purpose remains at the centre of everything we do. Whether we are designing a contemporary coastal home for a surfing family or a countryside retreat for clients who treasure long walks with their dogs, our aim is always to create spaces that feel deeply aligned with the way people live.
For us architecture is never an abstract exercise. It begins with lifestyle and culture. We take the time to truly understand our clients, how they spend their days, what matters most to them and how they want their home to feel. Every design decision then evolves from that understanding. The result is a home that feels effortless and authentic because it is shaped by real life.
Working across the UK has broadened our palette of landscapes and possibilities. In northern coastal towns, in the gentle hills of the Cotswolds, in the open countryside of Buckinghamshire or the rugged edges of Devon, we draw inspiration from local vernacular, local craft and the unique atmosphere of each setting. Sometimes that means creating something entirely new with a contemporary architectural language. Other times it means working more sensitively within rural conditions, introducing natural materials, traditional forms and soft tonal palettes while ensuring interiors remain contemporary, functional and filled with light.
This balance is a key part of our approach. We love the creative challenge of weaving together two forces: the lifestyle of our clients and the design culture that defines Watershedd. It is where our best work emerges. A calm coastal home that becomes a backdrop for family adventure. A countryside house that feels rooted in its setting but lives with the comfort and clarity of modern design. A retreat that quietly supports wellness, creativity and rest.
Each home we design is a response to lifestyle, culture and ambition. It is a collaboration between how people live and how landscapes shape their days. As we continue to work across the country, from coastal communities to rural retreats, we remain committed to creating homes that feel personal, thoughtful and deeply connected to place.
