Located in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, just outside London, this project creates a serene poolhouse and spa designed as a contemporary extension of an existing home and garden. The new building houses an indoor lap pool, spa, sauna, and changing area, forming a private wellness retreat that balances simplicity, warmth, and natural beauty.

Set within a newly landscaped garden, the architecture is designed to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings. The long, linear form stretches parallel to the garden edge, defined by slim structural lines, extensive glazing, and a living green roof that merges with the trees beyond. The poolhouse opens fully to the landscape, creating a dialogue between the stillness of the water within and the soft movement of the garden outside.

Internally, a restrained material palette evokes calm and connection to nature. Deep green tiles line the pool, echoing the colours of the surrounding woodland, while timber ceiling beams introduce warmth and rhythm. The floor of hand-laid cobbles and the pale stone walls continue outdoors, grounding the space in texture and tactility. Natural light filters through the full-height glazing, animating the surfaces with reflections from the water and dappled light from the garden.
