Surrey Barn is an extensive barn conversion set within the Surrey Hills AONB with panoramic views across the open countryside.
The existing agricultural barns were sensitively converted into a single family dwelling, maintaining the original oak frame structure whilst creating a small new extension to the original barn to create additional family living space. The design for the barn conversion was to maintain the original character on both the inside and exterior of the new house, limiting the visual impact on the AONB and protected Surrey Hills, whilst also creating a warm and inviting interior design.
Large glazed pivot doors were installed between the oak frames, maximising the light and views out across the stunning landscape. The original stone walls were re-used whilst new black timber cladding was added to the extension. The interior design balances contemporary and traditional details inherent in the original barn. A warm polished concrete floor and distinct black timber kitchen contrast the historic detailing of the oak frame structure.

The design of the house marries traditional aesthetics with modern architecture, helping the house to complement the AONB whilst also creating generous open-plan family living spaces.
The internal spaces feature natural lime plaster walls paired with warm polished concrete floors in the main family space, whilst the bedrooms were designed with oak timber flooring and warm painted walls to create a cosy retreat from the open-plan living areas.
